1 thing God really placed in my heart tonight during care group was the word 'holy'.

1 thing I always thank God for is the ability to be able to hear from Him. I've never struggled with this aspect of my walk with God.. and He has been faithful, especially in the many times I have been faithless when I hear from Him and do not cling on to the words He said.

What does it mean to be holy.

Many times, as Christians, we use the word holy. We describe God as holy and we know that we are called to be holy because He is holy. But do we really know the real meaning of the word holy.

If you had asked me before tonight, I would have told you that being holy meant being like God. The image I have in my head is the throne room in heaven where all the angels are bowing down before the Lord and surrounding Him, just as the prophet Isaiah describes in Isaiah 5.

But tonight God revealed to me that I never really understood the meaning of the word 'holy'.

I checked it out. The word holy basically means to be set apart. We are holy because we are set apart by God for a special purpose. God is holy because He is God. He is the great I AM, He is perfect, He is flawless.

For us, it is a privilege to be called holy. For God, it is His right because holiness is His nature. I heard somewhere (sorry, going for more than 1 church service a week has started to confuse me) that at times we take God too lightly. We focus on His grace and mercy so much, we focus on the fact that He calls Himself our friend and our brother, that we forget that He is also God. And in that aspect, He is set apart from us. We are merely His creation. He is the alpha and omega, the creator of the universe.

Sometimes, we forget to give God His due honour and respect. We forget that as part of our relationship with Him, we need to fear Him. And that's when we become blase about what we do, because the attitude we have is that God has grace anyway, a bountiful amount of it as well. But God is still holy and righteous and He cannot stand sin.

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship."
Romans 12:1
