Make My Life A Sacrifice
I am hopelessly addicted to Grey's Anatomy. Sadly, not the textbook version of it, but the show!
Every Monday evening, I sit glued to the TV for an hour. Ruth commented last week I look like a kid waiting for my cartoon to start. Apparently the show's quite a big hit. Well, being a medical student, I like medical shows. Heehee. I like this one more than ER. Not sure about Chicago Hope. I used to like that a lot. Not watched All Saints before so cannot comment.
This show is about interns. Surgical interns. I guess that's why it hits so close to home. Not that I want to be a surg intern lah. Not decided on that one yet.
Few interesting things to note about the show.
There are only 2 consultant surgeons in the entire hospital. 1 senior consultant.. the chief. 1 senior resident.. or what we tern registrars over here. And about 5 interns.
The consultants do ALL kinds of surgery. Cardiothoracic, neuro, gastro.. you name it.. they do it. But aren't surgical fields specialized too?
When there's an op... ALL the surgeons are in the theatre... minus a few interns. And mind you, this hospital looks MUCH bigger than MMC. In the cardiothoracic ward alone in MMC, there are already more than 5 consultants.
In an emergency, you need to go into theatre to get the consultant out to fix it.. cos there's no one left to do it out there.
Holding a clamp is a great privilege as an intern. In MMC, the med students doing their basic medical degree get to do it.
During surgeries.. you are either inside or in the gallery watching.. then who looks after the patients? Maybe that's what nurses are for.
Will continue this later.
Had an allergy test done today. Pathology nurse drew 2 test tubes of blood. All this because I thought I had sleep apnoea!
Grrrrr......
