Make My Life A Sacrifice
So what is a leader to you?
Ruth told me a leader is a person whom people follow. Just like the way the shepherd walks in front of the sheep and the sheep follow, a leader is a person who leads his people...and his people follow him. But mind you, the people do not follow a leader blindly. In true leadership, the leader walks ahead of his people and the people have the choice to follow or not to follow. Unlike sheep, humans have minds of their own. They have been given the capacity to think, at the same time God has also bewstowed upon is free will. We have the ability and the freedom to make choices. A leader would be someone who influences others to follow him. Jesus was such a leader. In no way did Jesus force people to conform to His ways. So why did the people follow Jesus. They followed Jesus cos Jesus was an influencer. He led by His actions, His words of wisdom and His love for the people. In a sense, a good leader would be someone who has the respect of the people as well.
I think the things that convicted me most in the entire lesson was the part on functional and positional leadership. Yes, we are all called to be leaders. But we aren't called to be leaders ALL the time. Somehow, my years as a Rafflesian..I still am one :)..sort of wrecked that. A lot of the time, we want to be positional leaders. I was planning to share this....
Remember RJChorale elections..way back about 4 yrs ago.... like how you really wanted to run for secretary even though the soprano section leader post like had ur name on it...cos u felt it was more prestigious to be the chorale secretary than the sop sl..that u felt u would have more power as the choir secretary...in a sense....then finally at the end of the day...u somehow discovered that it didn't matter which post u held in the choir comm, cos u could still do what u were capable of doing as long as u were a member of the choir comm...something u didn't exactly believe in b4 elections...
oh well..i guess we all learn along the way lah....
