Make My Life A Sacrifice
Well...guess what today's Daily Bread is on. Guarding your mouth.
Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles. ~Proverbs 21:23
He who guards his mouth preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction. ~Proverbs 13:3
Boy hasn't that been what Ruth has been teaching me over the past few weeks. Christian speech. She just did chapter 2 with me yesterday. Yeah, and now the entire care group is onto how to speak edifying words instead of our usual rude and rubbishy talk. She was telling Chewy in the car on the way back from word after she told me she was going to do chapter 2 with me that I was laughing at her all the way when she taught me chapter 1. Well, as I clarified, I wasn't laughing at her. I was laughing at her statement that we should speak positive edifying words to keep ourselves out of trouble. Which I translated to mean, we should not talk rubbish or else you will get scolding from Ruth. :)
Ruth's been telling me her reputation is now that she goes round scolding people. Cos she was scolding heaps of people at convention. Oh well. She scolded people for making too much noise past lights out, for changing buses without telling her..and the list goes on. She was saying that she wasn't the most well-liked person at convention. Oh well, I told her I still love her anyway. Haha....
The lesson was once again very very convicting. The lesson was on Wordly Speech. There are 13 forms of Wordly Speech that I will list here:
1. Lies
2. Deceitful Speech
3. Gossip
4. Slander
5. Complains
6. Coarse or Rude Language
7. Talking nonsense
8. Judgemental or Condemning Speech
9. Negative Speech
10. Flattery
11. Boasting
12. Sarcasm & Mockery
13. Quarreling
The lesson was super duper long. Made even longer by the fact that I took ages to copy everything down. But it was super convicting as well. Scary to a certain extent. It's made even more convicting by the fact that every single point has biblical references to back them up that they are seen as wrongful in God's eyes. As Ruth went on..I was thinking to myself..Oh no....now I know what all those.."Dear God, please forgive me for all the sins I am unaware about" are. As Ruth said, it may actually be a good idea to fast talking.
As it says in James 3:6, the tongue defiles the body. It IS hard to keep yourself from ungodly speech, but I reckon it's high time I try to do it. God please help me.
